Return

It has been a bit, but I am back. Nothing like the turn of the calendar year to inspire reseting tasks we've let fall aside. New Year - New You, Resetting, Resolutions... I too entered into a practice for setting intention into this new year.

Grateful to my kids for introducing me to this concept. Never been a true fan of resolutions but this concept I could get behind. We wrote down 12 intentions for this new year. Cut the pieces out of our notebook and then proceeded to blindly discard one daily until we came to New Year's Day. The one remaining would be my focused intention for 2026. Gives a sense of placing it the hands of the Universe/Higher power/God (however you refer to this concept) to guide which one you end up with. If you don't believe in that, just consider it luck.

We also took the time to burn, bury or flush those we discarded daily. I shuffled mine 7 times and discarded, again blindly, the one on top. Giving them back to the land, air, water, etc. Letting those intentions not truly be discarded but rather turned back over to the universe/higher power to allow for them to be accomplished in the new year, but to be in the hands of someone other than mine. Not my focus, just my hopes.

Yes, we started 12 days prior to Jan 1. You could still do this. Nothing critical about it having happened on these particular dates. In fact, I forgot a few days and had several to discard yesterday morning to get to my final intention.

Just like with everything. The level with which you invest or ceremonialize, is up to you. Of course, the more you put in, the more you will likely get out.

There was no right or wrong in the intentions you wrote, although I suppose, since you could get any of them in the end you might want to put thought and care as to them being true intentions for you. I tried to get detailed or more specific so I would better understand what I meant by the intention if I were to be left with it.

Upon the final intention being revealed yesterday morning - it, of course, was the one I was least in favor of, isn't that just like the universe? The one that likely required the most discomfort, or growth. I pondered on it through the day, off and on, then shared with David last night. Chewing on it some with him to get more clear on my intentions and expectations. Of course, his encouragement was to ask the author for clarity in what she meant by the words. So helpful, actually it was.

Then upon waking this morning I embraced this intention and started journaling, following the nudges to find those next steps. I am nervous, curious and leaning into my courage as I will be going deeper into my shadows, to grow in my understanding of myself, bringing awareness of my depths, healing of my traumas that shaped my current ways of being; beliefs, self doubts, and world views.

I pledge to check in here regularly. In hopes of holding accountability for myself as well as a place to track my progress over this coming year.

Wishing you a smooth transition into this new year ahead. If I can walk with you at any point along your path, be an accountability partner for your intentions, or guide you in nature connection practices or Active Hope circles please reach out. We are in this together! Thankfully.
